Spectacular Sparrow is a storybook about the day a brave little sparrow stood against a menacing crow.
Written and illustrated by me, it’s loosely based upon a sight I saw as a kid: a lone magpie surrounded by a frenzy of sparrows.
I woke up one day and decided to make a storybook.
After returning from a month-long trip to Japan in the middle of 2012, I realised I hadn’t made anything for myself in a while. There was also the urge to make some sort of storybook too. So I woke up one day and decided to make just that!
Putting it together has been fun: from agonising over tiny details in the writing (like rhymes, bro), to developing a new sparrow design halfway through because the old one was lacking in soul. But in the end it was all worth it seeing it come together!
